Cat In Heat

Description

Long time, no see, feels like months since I've submitted something of my own choosing. Perhaps the fallout from my previous Pin-Up affected me more than I'd like to admit, but at the same time I've been catching up on a lot of gaming as of late and I've been drawing a lot at work in preparation for our Kickstarter Campaign.

This piece has been a LONG time coming, almost started an entire year ago, but I've been coming back to it every now and again to finish it. This piece was originally just her head and shoulders, but since getting the tablet, I felt like extending it out and I know what you all like.

This piece was actually sketched on the page right after this piece...

So it felt right that it should be of Kate and seeing as how Kate is a contrast to Katherine, I wanted their palettes to contrast as well. With Katherine’s mild blues and scenic background to Kate's room on fire, lighting her ominously.

In both cases they're also taken from scenes in Anima Extract whilst Katherine’s was fairly non-specific, with just a concept of the cityscape behind her, Kate’s takes place somewhat after her initial "birth".

When I first extended this out I knew I wanted her to cradle her breasts, but I didn't know how I was going to. I had a couple of ideas ranging from her holding them together to her animated hair constricting them, but eventually I settled on a busted open straight jacket. It gives the piece more of a narrative, and reveals more about Kate than having me explain it.

With this piece I've updated her design a bit as well, her patterns have been updated a little, I've changed her eye colour (her Iris back to a blazing yellow and her sclera to a lighter colour) and finally her hair. In older pieces I never liked how her hair looked on her head, whilst the bangs over one eye is a classic trope for the feme fatale, after seeing a couple of piece of art based on Gorgons (monsters from Greek Myth with snakes for hair) I felt inclined to change it. This way you can more easily see how her hair will flow down and spread apart to make the snake heads (hands, whips, etc) and it also serves to contrast Katherine a little more (shows off her forehead pattern better too). It also paints a clear image in my head of what pre-transformation Kate would have looked like, or at least her hair style.

The title choice of this piece was actually named after the song by Satoru Kousaki, from the animated series Bakemongatari (a bit weird, hard to follow at times, but funny here and there and the art is top notch). Mostly because I like the song and the similarities to the character the song is about/for, a girl possessed by a supernatural entity goes a bit off the deep end and goes around is suggestive apparel... also kills them through affection.
But the title also serves a bit of a pun, for Kate is constantly aroused (in heat so to speak) and actually in a room on fire. Clever muthafucker aren’t I?
Also ironically this is the first piece which in Kate is no longer a cat, or anthropomorphic, since the change in hair style I decided to ditch her long minx like eras and also her tail (she's got enough stuff whipping around already) and seeing as how a woman covered entirely in hair kind of grosses me out, the patterns are not fur patterns, but simply tattoo's.

Finally, whilst it doesn't relate to the piece itself, it's a tid-bit of info about the character. For a while I tried to put a voice to the character, but haven’t been able to nail something down, however after playing through Metal Gear Rising: Revegtable, I've come to see the answer was staring at me right in the face. Upon renaming all my characters, I gave Kate the last name 'De Sade' without hesitation, in reference to the Frenchman who was an infamous sadist and to whom the term 'Sadism' is named after.
Upon listening to some old Bioshock recordings and particularly the ones on German Biologist Brigid Tenenbaum, I could envision Kate so easily. For beyond the sexual mania, Kate has a scientific mind (your typical good girl gone bad sort of scenario) and the European accent served her well. Getting back to Metal Gear Rising: Revolvo, the character of Mistral, with her many robot hands reminded me a Kate a little and it dawned upon me that I should give Kate a French accent. So come to writing Kate is going to be dropping some French here and there, Je devrais apprendre du francais.

Merci et jet vous laisserai avec plus de Kate.

Anima Extract Details (No Spoliers)Working on this thing it's very easy to forget that I'm really the only one who knows what it is, who's involved and what's happening. So I shall start from its premise; Anima Extract is a comic that I've been in the process of writing this past year. The desire to do this series came from wanting to give my pre-existing cast of characters a story to flesh them out, turning them from designs into Characters.

The Cast. Circa 2008.
Originally the trope was based off the immensely popular Kingdom Hearst Franchise, but no matter how hard I tried I never truly connected with any story that I would write connecting them with the established Universe. So I decided to remove them from the KH mythos and start my own Universe and story from scratch.
Firstly this gave me complete creative freedom with the story, so now all the characters are getting drastic de
